Here’s one small way Intuit screws people with TurboTax. Notice that the Deluxe version, for $29.95, allows you to import your tax info from last year to get the ball rolling? That’s a great time saver and can help prevent data entry issues.
Now get this: The IRS has expressed an interest in doing this for every tax payer for free. Intuit is fighting that. How dare the US Government make life easier for every taxpayer in America when Intuit can charge $29.95 for this service?
Worse yet, you are able to deduct the cost of tax preparation software and filing fees! An entire industry exists to do something the government should be able to quite effectively.
