Who Really Killed the Knoxville Unitarians? →
I’ve had a mix of emotions regarding the killing and wounding of the churchgoers in Knoxville over the weekend. As someone who describes himself these days as a born-again Unitarian, I consider the victims to be fellow coreligionists and brothers in sisters in finding our own paths. Because of my connection to these people through our common covenant, I am saddened by the loss of two...
Re: the Surge
If it was so damned successful, as Sen. McCain insists it was, why does he think we might need to stay for 100 years?
New German citizenship exam →
Starting in September, people who want to become German citizens will have to take a new citizenship test. Critics say that the test, which will include 33 out of a total of 310 possible questions, is too ideologically biased, historically unsound and littered with errors. To give you a sense of what kind of knowledge is expected of future Germans, DW-WORLD.DE has selected 10 questions for this...
The Cellphone Problem →
Young, urban people are increasingly only or primarily using cellphones for voice communication. Because people using cellphones are notoriously hard to get a hold of by pollsters, this group is underrepresented in nearly all polls on any major issue or political race.
It just so happens that these same people tend to skew very heavily Democratic.
So any poll you see, question its veracity....
Cuban Missile Crisis II : The Revenge →
Man, was I disappointed that Comic Sans didn’t make an appearance. I think that font would best be represented by a 50-year-old bespectacled woman with kitties on her sweater who loves creating newsletters to send out to family and friends. (via stephcv on digg)

Awesome-looking iPhone app version of Star Wars: the Force Unleashed. How many different versions of this game are there? PS3, xBox 360, PS2, PSP, Nintendo DS, iPhone… Atari 2600?

www.minneapolisfuckingrocks.com/mp3/ →
Unprotected directory full of mp3-formatted music that, apparently, causes Minneapolis to quote-unquote fuckingrock(s.com).
HINT: If you get some nonsense about “Service Unavailable” try alt-clicking the links to force your browser to download them instead of playing the mp3s in your browser.
ANOTHER HINT: Seems you can only download a few at a time.
"PC Sales Help Apple in Quarter" →
From the New York Times. This seems like an odd headline, don’t you think? Odd that PC sales would help Apple. That should read Mac sales. In any case, another bang-up quarter for Apple, which means their stock should immediately and inexplicably plummet if history is any guide.
Sure enough: Apple shares drop 9% in after-hours trading. (via Daring Fireball)

Emphasizing the ‘Public’ in Public Affairs

Bunny don’t play dat
For posterity’s sake: My brief appearance on the O’Reilly Factor from last month’s National Conference for Media Reform.
At about 5:55 left in the video, as Rev. Yearwood yells “Fox… News… is complicit… in… this… madness!”
Saw this Watchmen trailer before Batman Begins last night. My main problem with this upcoming movie is that the heroes are all being played by people way to young for the roles. These are has-been superheroes coming back to the action after years of being outlawed. They should not be fresh-faced college grads in costumes. Wrong.
But I’ll still go see it and I hope it’s awesome....

It’s within the margin of error, but we’ll call it the Jesse’s Not Running Bounce.
Is Fournier saving or destroying the AP? →
Fournier is a main engine in a high-stakes experiment at the 162-year old wire to move from its signature neutral and detached tone to an aggressive, plain-spoken style of writing that Fournier often describes as “cutting through the clutter.”
That’s all well and good, as long as “cutting through the clutter” means actually getting at some sort of greater truth rather than just...
Fareed Zakaria interviews Barack Obama →
One of the smartest men around interviews one of the other smartest men around.
Obama’s been seen carrying Zakaria’s “The Post-American World.” Let’s see if they rub off on each other.
