Blogging

I’ve been meaning to get back into blogging for a long time now, but I don’t know how.

I started my old blog at pretentious blowhard before everyone else thought this blogging thing was cool but long after anyone in the know knew it wasn’t cool any more. 2001 that is, if you are wondering.

Problem is, I ran out of things to say. And I grew up too much. And I started wanting to, you know, make a living for myself.

I knew, eventually, I would end up where I am now: a civil servant in the United States’ premier foreign affairs agency. Heck, I turned in the paperwork yesterday to receive a diplomatic passport. Me! A diplomat! And, well, part of being diplomatic means you don’t have a blog where you often go off the ranch.

So what is blogging when you have a line you need to toe in both your professional and personal lives? I have no idea what that is for me. I’ve carved out a niche for myself teaching and training others about what blogging can be for them and for their organization, and I can’t answer that question for myself.

I guess this is (another) start to find out what it’s going to be. I know one thing: I’m really just doing it to have an excuse to do yet another new design.
