Fournier is a main engine in a high-stakes experiment at the 162-year old wire to move from its signature neutral and detached tone to an aggressive, plain-spoken style of writing that Fournier often describes as “cutting through the clutter.”
That’s all well and good, as long as “cutting through the clutter” means actually getting at some sort of greater truth rather than just muddying the waters to buck what you, personally, see as a mainstream liberal-dominated media system.
Sounds like Fournier is taking a page from Jay Rosen in his He Said, She Said, We Said article at PressThink from 2004, but I really doubt that his or his reporters’ idea of “we said” is what Rosen had in mind.
Fournier has been in the spotlight recently as Josh Marshall and crew at Talking Points Memo have pointed out the AP’s apparent handling of McCain campaign’s ridiculous claims as nuggets of capital-T Truth.
